To provide an opportunity for individuals who struggle and suffer with mental wellness, substance use disorder and a criminal history succeed in Recovery, achieve Reconciliation with their family and enhance their Re-entry efforts with all the Resources necessary.
The vision for which this organization is erected to create, develop, enhance, facilitate and provide peer support, counseling, substance abuse programs, and resources that will assist individuals, and their family members move forward through Educational Development, Family Counseling, Alcohol/Drug Counseling, and Personal Growth & Development. The overall aim is to provide assistance necessary to improve their personal, social and economic status.
For DETER, Forensic peer support exists wherever people are experiencing and recovering from trauma, mental health challenges, addiction and incarceration Therefore, we are working to bring peer support to people who are incarcerated or reentering the community after incarceration.

We offer a variety of programs and services to support mental health and substance use disorder. We train peers to be able to assist including support groups, and educational workshops.

Families of people in recovery may experience adversities that lead to increased family stress, guilt, shame, anger, fear, anxiety, loss, grief, and isolation.

DETER’s Forensic Peer Training program offers a 4 day intensive classroom training.(Virginia Certification Board 26 CEU's) We seek applicants with diverse experiences. People with mental health conditions who also have co-experiences such as a history of incarceration, homelessness, substance use, or military service for example, are strongly encouraged to apply.

DETER adheres to The NAADAC/NCC AP National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS) Code of Ethics that outlines basic values and principles of peer recovery support practice. This Code serves as a guide for responsibility and ethical standards for NCC AP National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialists.
